The cast bronze arm and hand is hand painted with oil paint; the butterflies are created with kappa burl veneer, attached to walnut wood dowels and attached to steel rods, all hand-crafted and hand-shaped. This is an original sculpture. The concept of the sculpture began with Andrew Myers wanting to incorporate the cast-iron pulley with sculpture. During this time, he met someone who “made him flutter” and the idea of butterflies being let go from a hand came to mind.
